Why Dubai blinds need a different routine
Between construction dust, sandstorms and near-constant AC airflow pulling particles across every windowsill, blinds in Dubai homes accumulate dust noticeably faster than the same products would elsewhere. The good news is that a light, regular routine prevents almost all of the wear we see on blinds that come in for repair.
Fabric roller & roman blinds
- Vacuum with a soft brush attachment monthly, working top to bottom in the direction of the weave.
- Spot-clean marks with a barely damp microfibre cloth — avoid soaking the fabric.
- Keep the blind fully lowered for a few hours if you notice a strong smell of fresh paint or cleaning product nearby; the fabric can absorb odours.
- Have sunscreen fabric checked annually if it faces west or south, since it takes the most UV exposure in the home.
Aluminium & faux wood venetians
Close the slats fully, wipe each one with a dry microfibre cloth or a specialist venetian duster, then repeat with the slats tilted the opposite way. For a deeper clean, a slightly damp cloth with mild soapy water is safe on both aluminium and faux wood — just dry each slat afterwards to avoid water spotting.
Real wood & woven bamboo blinds
Dust with a dry, soft cloth only — avoid water on real timber, which can warp or discolour it over time. A light application of wood polish every few months keeps the grain looking fresh, particularly on slats that catch direct sun.
When to call for a professional service
If a chain or cord mechanism starts sticking, a motor stops responding to its remote, or a fabric shows a persistent stain that hasn't shifted with spot cleaning, it's usually faster and cheaper to have it looked at than to keep working around the problem — most mechanism issues are quick fixes if caught early.
